BeamNG.drive Map Workflow
Create a BeamNG.drive map from real terrain, build its roads and scenery, and drive it in Free Roam.

Start here
Use MapToPlay to prepare terrain, roads, scenery and gameplay areas for a BeamNG.drive Free Roam level. You will work in the Editor, download an export, and install it in the game.
BeamNG.drive is currently listed as Prototype. Save versions as you work and make a small test export before building a large map.
Follow this order
Create a project with BeamNG.drive selected as the game. Choose your location and playable size, then process terrain, imagery and OSM data. When processing finishes, open the Editor.
- Import the terrain, imagery and vectors. Check alignment and prepare the terrain.
- Correct water and building outlines, prepare banks and foundations, then assign models.
- Build roads and bridges. Set lane directions where you want AI traffic.
- Add trees, bushes, signs, lights, fences and rocks.
- Paint grass and flowers, then adjust their density.
- Place a spawn point and any fuel, charging or parking bays.
- Wait for saving, export the project and test the downloaded map in BeamNG.drive.
Use the Editor checklist
Open Checklist beside Windows in the Editor header. It follows the same sequence as this guide and shows your progress.
Some steps are checked automatically when you import layers or save assignments. Click a step to mark it complete or reopen it. Skip optional features your map does not need, such as bridges or service bays.
Checklist progress belongs to this project in this browser. It is not shared with collaborators and does not block export. A checked step still needs your visual review.
Choose the map area
The playable area contains the terrain you can drive on. The surrounding background provides distant scenery. Keep roads, spawns and gameplay bays inside the playable area.
Start with 2,048 meters for your first project. Read Terrain and Water before choosing a larger area.
Prepare scenery
Use Objects and Collections for buildings, trees, bushes, your own models, poles, lights, fences and rocks.
Build a road network
Follow Roads, Bridges and Traffic to prepare roadbeds, construct surfaces, add structures and connect traffic lanes.
Add grass and flowers
Use Grass and Flowers to choose vegetation styles and paint their coverage and density.
Add places to start, stop and refuel
Follow Spawn Points, Fuel and Parking to place and configure gameplay areas.
Export and drive
Follow Export and Installation to download the map, install it and check the result in Free Roam.
